I understand your point. You see, traveling nowadays seems like a luxury. And people, friends, above all, should understand that it's not easy affording such luxury without due consideration to our needs.
Excitement and spontaneity are enviable feelings. These days they are few and far between! Enjoy...

I remember the first time I was deferred to in a meeting where the folks actually wanted to hear what I had to say. I struggled with accepting that I was good enough (all of a sudden) to be listened to. I had called that meeting and invited people I needed to help me resolve an issue (and whom I respected). And, here, they were respecting ME! It took me a while but I cam to realize that if I respected them and they choose to listen to me, they must be really smart! I think of this event on occasion and then I think about all the things I have gotten done since I accepted that confidence. You deserve it and now other are giving credit to you for your capabilities. I hope, soon, you can say "Thank You" with confidence instead of expressing concern about whether 'they' are right. "They", very often, are.
